BIBLE POWERPLAN: OCTOBER 7-13

Wednesday, October 7: Song of Solomon 1:1-7
Who are the key players in these verses? How does the Shulamite describe her love for the shepherd (1:2)? How do those (notice the “we”) view her love/commitment to her lover (1:4)? What would those around you say about your love/commitment to the significant people in your life? What made the Shulamite self-conscious and how does she deal with it (1:5-6)? What makes you self-conscious? How might you follow the example of the Shulamite? How does the Shulamite express her commitment to the Shepherd (1:7)? Write down one way you can express your commitment to your loved ones.

Thursday, October 8: Song of Solomon 1:8-2:7
Solomon attempts to woo the Shulamite; how does he describe her (1:8-10)? With 700 wives and 300 hundred concubines, Solomon probably knew a bit about women! How does the Shulamite describe her beloved Shepherd (1:13-14, 16; 2:3)? While the Shulamite is speaking figuratively, her description reveals how precious her shepherd is to her. Using modern terms, write out a short description of what the special person in your life means to you.

Friday, October 9: Song of Solomon 2:7-17
What caution does the Shulamite give to the daughters of Jerusalem (2:7, 3:5)? What steps might you take to apply this caution to your own life? How does the Shulamite describe her beloved to the daughters of Jerusalem (2:8-17)? What does she say about her relationship with her beloved (2:16)? How are you tempted by the lure of luxuries or the pressures of significant people in your life? What tactics for resistance can you learn from this woman?

Saturday, October 10: Song of Solomon 3:1-11
The Shulamite has a dream; what does she dream about (3:1-3)? What’s special about her love for the shepherd (3:1-4)? How would you describe this special love? Can you think of a time when you’ve experienced it? Who enters into this dream and how is he described (3:6-11)? How does the Shulamite respond (3:11)? Solomon is making an obvious attempt to impress and win the Shulamite; what would/did it take to cause you to love someone?

Sunday, October 11: Song of Solomon 4:1-5:6
Solomon again expresses his admiration for the Shulamite; how does he describe her here (4:1-5)? What effect does the Shulamite have on Solomon (4:9-11)? What is her response to all of Solomon’s adoration (4:16)? When tempted by flattery (even if it is true), how should you respond?

Monday, October 12: Psalm 69:1-18
What condition is David, the psalmist, in (69:1-3)? Why (69:4)? What is his relationship with God like (69:5-12)? What does he ask God for (69:13-18)? Have you ever cried out to God like this? What happened?

Tuesday, October 13: Psalm 69:19-36 How have David’s enemies make his life miserable (69:19-21)? What punishment does he want God to deal out (69:22-28)? What does David promise to do (69:30-36)? How hard is it for you to worship and praise when you’re in deep distress? If you do worship then, what difference does it make?

REFUGE Adopts a NEW Baby Boy!

Hey guys – check it out. Our NEW Holt Baby is Bogdan Emanuel Kapas. His birth date is February 16, 2008 and he lives in Romania. Bogdan lives with his birth family in one small room. Their income is very low and is not enough to support the family. Your continued support helps Bogdan and his family to receive the food supplies they need. Thank you for GIVING!

DNOW 2009 Rocked!

Counting Down to 2009…

We had a great time on New Year’s Eve counting down to 2009 – We had seventy people on hand so that was awesome! To start things off we had a time of worship led by our own REFUGE praise band. Then our AMAZING drama team did a drama set to the song “Everything” by LifeHouse. Don Dowdy was our guest speaker for the night and he made a big impact on everyone there. (Thanks, Don!) After REFUGE we ate pizza and other stuff – then we broke out the video games. We had three XBox consoles and a Wii going at one time – We’re talking Madden 09, Halo3, Rock Band and DDR! It was action-packed! Steven Kitchens and Nick Berryhill rocked out on stage for awhile too – now that was LOUD! We all came together around 11:45 pm and had a time of prayer together, then we COUNTED DOWN to the New Year. It was an amazing night – Thanks to everyone who helped and everyone who came!
